This is Satan’s Territory

I was walking along the campus with a pastor just the other day when it hit me…this is Satan’s territory. He owns this place. This is his domain. The university was founded upon Jesus Christ and this wise serpent has stolen them away. I have known this in the back of my mind, but for some reason this really hit me hard at that moment on campus.

The college campus is a spiritual battlefield! It is unbelievable how hard he will fight against people or a church that are engaged in reaching their campus. HE DOES NOT WANT YOU THERE. If you will look closely, there is a “No Trespassing” sign hanging on the entrance. He will do everything in his power to kick you off, get you to quit, discourage you, and defeat you here.

66% of high school graduates will attend some form of college. By the second year after graduating, 76% will be attending a college. This is a high percentage of young people. I do not know the exact break down of how many will attend a Christian vs. secular school, but it will be much more on the secular side. Satan is a wise enemy. It is here that our future leaders will spend the most formative period of their lives. Satan is so wise as to steal the minds and hearts of our young people away. The mind is what he wants. If he can steal their minds and indoctrinate them into his secular worldview and way of thinking, he can destroy their soul.

“Well, this really encourages me to start or continue in campus ministry” you may be saying right now. Yes, this is a serious place of battle! I will tell you that up front, but I am not content with letting Satan take our young people or our nation! I am not content by setting on the sidelines and watching all this happen around me! God has equipped us with His armor to fight this battle. We do not fight in our own strength! We are to be “strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.” We are to “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”

Why? Because, “we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”

The Christian life is a battle! We must stand up and fight! There is territory to take back! There are souls to rescue! This should excite you and I even more to know that we are on the front lines. We are actively doing something and have a goal to work towards. There is nothing boring about the Christian life or ministry. There is kingdom work that must be done and God wants to do it with you!
